How to get to the city center of Athens from the airport:

As of March 28th, 2001, there is only one airport in Athens, which serves both the international and domestic flights. The new airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" is in Spata, about 30kms from the city centre and it is accessible as follows:

a) by bus: There are six express buses, the X92, X93, X94, X95, X96 and X97. The ticket costs EUR 2,90 has a validity of 24 hours and can be used on all means of transportation, but for only one trip from/to the airport. These run as follows:

X92: from Kifissia to to the Athens Airport (24-hour operation, only in July and August)

X93: from the Kiffissos Coach Station to the Athens Airport (24-hour operation)

X95: from Syntagma square to the Athens Airport (24-hour operation)

X96: from Piraeus and Glyfada to the Athens Airport (24-hour operation)

X97: from the Dafni metro station to the Athens Airport (24-hour operation, only in July and August)

b) by the Athens Metro: Metro Line 3 (the "Blue Line") as far as Syntagma Square and Monastiraki (EUR 8,00). Check the Athens Metro Map.

c) by the Proastiakos Railway: as far as "Larissa Station" (EUR 8,00) or you may change into Metro Line 2 at the "Doukissis Plakentias" station (EUR 7,00 + EUR 0,70 for the metro ticket). For the Proastiakos there are discounts for buying more than 1 ticket (return tickets, families) and for ages under 18 and over 65. Check the Proastiakos Map.

d) by taxi: outside the arrivals there is a taxi queue. The price list is available on an announcement board. All taxis have a meter and you may ask for the receipt. There is an airport fee of EUR 3,00 (from/to the airport) and a luggage fee of EUR 0,30 per piece of luggage over 10 kilos. Double tariff between 24:00 and 05:00. Minimum charge is EUR 1,75 and the meter starts at EUR 0,85. Taxi drivers have a notorious reputation, therefore be careful.

e) by private taxi transfer: a taxi that will be waiting for you at the airport and will be only for you (max. 4 persons per taxi: if you have a lot of luggage, a second taxi may be needed). English speaking escort from our office is also available. Please contact us for further details.

TIP: As traffic conditions are unpredictable in Athens, we recommend allowing at least 1 hour to get to the airport. Rush hours are 8:00-10:00AM, 2:30-4:00PM and 8:00-9:00PM.
