Description of the accommodation

The Porto Del Colombo hotel in the old town of Chania, Crete.

Porto del Colombo is a traditional hotel housed in an imposing, tall, 650 year old building that has gathered a rich history over the centuries. During the Ottoman days, it was inhabited by senior members of the Turkish military, who made many changes in the architecture of the building – still retained the metal rings nailed to the walls. In the early 19th century, the building was used as a French embassy and later inhabited by the great Greek politician Eleftherios Venizelos, who used it as a political office until moving to Athens when he took power as prime minister of Greece. The operation as a hotel began in 1982; since then there have been many improvement  renovations. The last renovation, according to the instructions of the competent archaeological service, completed in 2013. An important sample of the Venetian architecture is the breakfast room on the ground floor, with the huge arches and the very high ceilings.

The hotel has 10 rooms including two maisonettes, all decorated with particularly beautiful hand-made furniture and offering all modern conveniences, including Wi-Fi, TV, mini fridge, safe, telephone, hairdryer, toiletries.
The economy rooms offer views over a picturesque street of the old town with a surface of about 15sq.m.
The standard rooms measure approx. 20-25sq.m, some of them may accommodate a 3rd person on a sofa or extra bed and they offer views either to the old town or the Venetian lighthouse and the old port.
The maisonettes (25-30sq.m) are built in two levels with a bedroom loft and can accommodate up to four persons.

Being a historical building the hotel has no elevator, visitors need to take a flight of stairs and is therefore not suitable for physically challenged travelers.
