Greek Festival: Euripides, Helen
2013 July 15, 16
Athens - Herod Atticus Odeon
Kalamata & Agrinio Municipal Regional Theatres.
Dramaturgy–Direction: Vassilis Nikolaidis.
“What is god, or what is not god, or what is in between” wonders the Chorus in Helen. The squabbling gods rain down suffering on mortals, and wars are fought over phantoms.
In 412 BC, after the complete destruction of the Sicilian Expedition at Syracuse, Euripides wrote a play that borders on the tragicomic. Fifteen years after the start of the Trojan War, Helen meets Menelaus once more and the myth of the unfaithful wife is turned on its head.
