Villa Kontis enjoys a peaceful and private location. The original house of stone has been restored and extended to incorporate traditional and modern features. Spacious interiors, with open beamed ceilings of cypress wood, open out to attractive stone terraces. An upper terrace contains a barbecue and dining area with three 300-year old pine trees and a large mulberry tree, providing shade by day and a dramatic feature by night with concealed lighting. A middle garden terrace leads down to the pool terrace and then up to a delightful courtyard of many potted plants.
Villa Kontis has a secluded location and car hire is therefore strongly suggested. Chania is a drive of forty minutes. A twenty minute drive takes one to the Roman tombs and small waterfalls of Argiroupolis. Lake Kournas is just eight kilometres away.

Villa Roza

Near Kokkino Chorio, Crete -  sleeps maximum 6 persons

General view of the Rossa Villa and its poolKokkino Horio is a small hilltop village close to the northern coast and a few kilometres east of Almirida. The village was used as the main set in the film "Zorba the Greek" and many of the villagers will show you photographs of themselves with Anthony Quinn. Now it is a sleepy village of narrow streets, a main square with eucalyptus trees and one taverna, one cafénion and one small store.
On a residential hillside, just six minutes walk from Kokkino Horio, Villa Roza looks out across Souda Bay to the Akrotiri peninsula and up to the Turkish fort at Aptera and the White Mountains ("Lefka Ori").
View of the interiorVilla Roza is a perfect retreat for relaxing by the sea: surrounding terraces for both sun and shade, a garden of varied colours and elegantly furnished interiors with a high standard of comfort. As a home, the kitchen is meticulously equipped, all windows have mosquito screens and sun blinds and there is a well stocked library of books. The gardens contain pear, apricot, peach, citrus and almond trees, pink and crimson bougainvillaea, climbing roses, hibiscus and six varieties of rosemary bushes.
Car hire is suggested: the village of Plaka, three kilometres away, has two minimarkets, two café bars and three tavernas. Almirida, with a sandy beach, a watersports centre and a good selection of shops and tavernas, is a drive of just five minutes. Villa Anastasia, in Kalives, Chania, CreteJust a few kilometres before Almirida, and fifteen kilometres from Chania, Kalives is an attractive seaside village overlookingView from the villa Souda Bay and the Akrotiri Peninsula with the dramatic White Mountains ("Lefka Ori") and endless orange and olive groves in the background. The village has a traditional central square cafénion, shaded by a large plane tree, a good selection of tavernas and shops, two long sandy beaches and a more detached atmosphere than felt in the more developed resorts.
Villa Anastasia is the Kalives village house of the Tsigounakis family. Spacious interiors lead out to shaded terraces and the attractive pool area. The front entrance leads to the narrow village high street and the rear entrance leads to a small street bordering the sea. The sandy beach of Mistraili is just two hundred metres away; here the shallow waters are ideal for children.
The village of Kalives will provide well for those looking for a relaxed holiday and Villa Anastasia is well located to be close to swimming, shopping and dining. We recommend car rental, however, for those who will want to explore the surrounding areas and a host of archaeological sites. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres in nearby villages: glassblowing in Kokkino Horio, the bell maker in Neo Horio, the lace makers in Gavalohori and the silk makers in Kalamitsi.

The village caters for the visitor seeking an escape from the larger resorts, good fish tavernas and proximity to the sea. The unspoilt countryside is excellent for walkers and there is a watersports centre on one of Almirida’s beaches.
A small road leads up from the village to the clifftop position of Villa Maria or a walk across the beach and up a steep path to the villa takes five minutes.
The Villa Maria enjoys dramatic views over Almirida Bay and out to sea. Please note that the fifty metres walk from where one parks the car to the villa is fairly steep.
