Nafplio

Nafplio is one of the most charming towns in Greece, with one of the best-preserved old towns to be found anywhere.

After the war of Independence against the Turks, Nafplion became the capital of the Greek state and flourished accordingly.

It makes an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area and especially the nearby archaeological sites of Corinth, Mycenae and Epidavros, the various villages by the sea and the islands of the Saronic Gulf (Hydra, Poros and Spetses).

How to get there: by public bus (approx. 3hrs), by private car (2-2.5hrs)
