Vitsentzos Kornaros: Erotokritos

psarantonis-hainides

Two gurus of Cretan music, the mystic lyre-player and Greek bluesman Psarantonis and the younger Dimitris Apostolakis of the Hainides, interpret the Erotokritos as a mixed spectacle which, without ignoring the present, keeps one eye firmly on mediaeval popular festivals and introduces the term ‘sung narrative’. Their version, based on an idea of Apostolakis’, employs music and song but also special movement, dance and acrobatics. On stage with them, the Hainides band and the Ki Omos Kineitai company.
