How to get there from Athens: by ferry (minimum 16 hours) or by plane (1 hour).
Some of the places of interest: the islandís capital with medieval town (built by the Knights of St. John), ancient acropolis, Byzantine and Turkish monuments, Mandraki harbour, Murat Reis mosque, various churches. Dominant in the medieval town is the Grand Masterís Palace. Other sites outside Rhodes town, are the site of Ialyssos, Lindos, and Kamiros, the church of the Virgin in Fileremos, the Valley of the Butterflies, the impressive fortress in Monolithos and the village of Embonas, one of the most picturesque ones.
Main villages: Ialissos, Kremasti, Kalathos, Afandou, Maritsa, Archangelos.
Beaches: Rhodes town, Faliraki, Ixia, Kremasti, Kallithea, Kameiros, Kanaris, Lindos and many more.
Overall: The biggest island in the Dodecanese and the fourth largest in Greece, Rhodes boasts of its age-old history and astonishing natural beauty. A crossroads of civilisations, it offers an ideal setting for any traveller, family, honeymooners, young party crowds or history lovers. Renting a car is advisable.
