How to get there from Athens: by ferry
(6 hours), by catamaran (3 hours) and plane (45 minutes).
Some of the
places of interest: the main town of the island with the Venetian castle
built by Marcos Sanoudos in 1207, the Capuchin monastery, the Archaeological
museum, the Byzantine Folk museum, the monastery of St. John Chrysostomos, the
monastery of the Holy Cross and many more.
Main villages: Glinado,
Vivlos, Filoti, Moutsouna
Beaches:
Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Mikri Vigla,
Kastraki, Alykos, Pyrgaki
Overall: The biggest island in the Cyclades
is unusually green in comparison to the rest of the islands in the complex and
boasts about its charming and very romantic old town.
Excellent for beach and beach holidays.
